About the event

You are invited to the garden to meet guests Deja Gould and Guillermo Vasquez. Deja is a Chochenyo language carrier for her Tribe the Confederated Villages of Lisjan Nation.  Deja will share the Chochenyo language in honoring culturally significant plants, (including medicinal plants).   Deja will also share cultural stories of these plants and their traditional plant uses, including medicinal uses.  Guillermo is a farmer in our neighborhood.   He will share about  Indigenous permaculture work in the Bay Area and the power of conscious choices to support Mother Earth.   New Village Oakland’s garden offers a place for our community to foster a greater appreciation for nature’s  wisdom, which Indigenous people have connected with for generations.   We invite you to welcome Deja and Guillermo to the garden as we return in relationship with Earth as a community.
